Lot 155

1836 N-3 R1 PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown. Lustrous mint red fading to medium steel brown with nearly half of both sides showing original mint color. The fields are smooth and slightly reflective and the eye appeal is excellent. Would rate a slightly higher grade but there are a few minor marks, including a spot of dark chocolate toning on the eyebrow and a small spot of fine carbon at the lower right point of star 13. EDS with a fine die line arcing through the M in AMERICA into the berry below. Not seen by Noyes or Bland. Our grade is MS62. The attribution and Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 2 finer, 1 in 65, 1 in 66 for the variety. PCGS #37118. Estimate Value $1,500 - UP
Ex Robert C. Hall Estate, Bowers & Ruddy 10/26/1978:102-Manuel Ahumada Collection (lot ticket included).
