1817 N-5 R3 PCGS graded MS65 Red & Brown, CAC Approved. Choice lustrous light bluish steel brown and olive with at least 20% of the planchet showing original mint color. A beautiful, satiny cent that offers outstanding eye appeal. Just a few minor contact marks, including a couple light nicks on the jawline, one on the bust tip, and another over the 7 in the date. E-MDS. The repunching on the left base of the N in ONE is clear and the fields show fine radial die flowlines on both sides. This is the plate coin for the variety in the John Wright reference on the cents of 1816-1839. Graded MS63 Choice and tied for CC#1 in the Noyes census, his photo #28121. Our grade is MS63+, very close to MS64. The attribution and Wright-Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; the only MS RB graded at PCGS and the finest MS RB for the variety at both services. PCGS #36563. Estimate Value $5,000 - UP
