Lot 672

1797 S-133 R5 Stemless Wreath F12. The obverse is very attractive glossy light to medium chocolate brown and olive; the reverse is slightly glossy darker chocolate brown and olive with lighter steel brown toning on the devices. The obverse is smooth except for microscopic roughness near the dentils at LIBERTY clockwise to the dentils opposite the chin while microscopic roughness covers the reverse. No verdigris, and the only notable mark is a dull, shallow nick on the neck. M-LDS, Breen state IV, with a radial die crack from the dentils to the neck near the bust. The strike is a bit weak at the bust tip and the opposing area at OF, which is typical for the later states of this variety. The obverse grades VF20 or slightly better while the reverse nets to VG8, so the F12 assessment is a compromise. Still a decent example of this tough Stemless Wreath variety, near the lower end of the condition census. Estimate Value $600 - UP
