Lot 661

1808 C-3 R1 G5. Glossy medium chocolate brown and steel. The surfaces are smooth and the only notable contact mark is a pinprick in the field close before the forehead. This piece was struck at least two times. One strike was about 35% off center to K-9 and this was followed by another that was centered on the planchet but rotated slightly clockwise relative to the first. Clear evidence of the off-center impression is visible on both sides. In addition the planchet has a wavy appearance that is characteristic of a half cent that was a brockage maker (struck against another planchet in the coining chamber). An interesting mint error worth a close inspection. Later die state with the reverse rotated 150 degrees CCW. The date is strong and the legends are mostly clear. Removed from a PCGS slab graded G6 (PCGS label #1107.06/81793802 included). Estimate Value $100 - UP

Realized $823
