1652 Massachusetts Pine Tree Shilling Small Planchet Noe-30 R3 NGC graded XF40. A Small Planchet type with MASSACHUSETTS. Glossy medium gray and steel with lighter silvery steel toning on the devices. The surfaces are smooth and the only mark is a dull dent affecting a couple beads right of the Pine Tree. Unevenly struck with everything strong except for obvious weakness at ETS right of the Pine Tree and the opposing EW ENG on the reverse. The Pine Tree, date, and denomination are all quite bold. Much of the legend outside the beads is off the planchet, which is normal for the Small Planchet varieties. Listed on page 41 in the "Redbook." Weight shown as 71.4 grains on the NGC label.
