Lot 638

1662 Massachusetts Oak Tree Twopence with Large 2 Noe-32 R6+ NGC graded MS63. Very attractive frosty gunmetal gray and bluish steel with lighter steely gray toning on the highpoints. Microscopic granularity covers the fields and protected areas while the devices are all smooth (apparently as struck). The only marks, and they are barely visible, are a tick on the lower half of the 1 in the date and another elongated pinprick just right of the denomination. A dull wave in the planchet shows near the bottom of the Oak Tree and at the bottom of the denomination. Boldly struck with outstanding details throughout. The obverse is slightly off center to the bottom (as usual) while the reverse is centered on the planchet. A superior example of the type. Listed on page 40 in the "Redbook." Weight listed as 10.6 grains on the NGC label. Pop 1; none finer at NGC. Estimate Value $10,000 - UP

Realized $18,800
