Lot 33

1800/79 S-196 R1 Overdate 80 over 79 PCGS graded AU55. Variety with Style II Hair. Frosty dark steel brown and chocolate with a puff of reddish chocolate toning between the T & Y in LIBERTY. No roughness or verdigris, only light friction on the highpoints of the devices and minor contact marks scattered over both sides. A very light diagonal scratch under LI in LIBERTY, another in the field over the bust, and a tiny pinprick right of the date are good identifying marks, but none is distracting. Satiny mint luster covers the protected areas and the eye appeal of this cent is excellent. MDS, Breen state II, with a rough diagonal die line at ES but no crack on the obverse. The overdate feature is obvious to the unaided eye. Our grade is EF40+, very close to EF45. Noyes says EF40 and tied for CC#8, his photo #36778. The attribution and Koshkarian provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 1 finer in 58+ for the variety. Estimate Value $6,000 - UP
