Lot 219

1803 S-258 R1 Small Date, Large Fraction PCGS graded MS65 Brown, CAC Approved. Choice lustrous medium steel brown and light chocolate with faint hints of very faded mint color peeking through in some of the protected areas. Satiny mint frost covers this cent, even the highest points on the devices, and the eye appeal is outstanding in every respect. The only notable mark is a diagonal nick right of the second S in STATES. Nicely struck M-LDS, Breen state III, with die clashmarks on both sides and a fine die crack that arcs up through the 1 in the date, lower curls, lower tip of the hair ribbon, and on to the rim at left. A premium example of the Small Date with Large Fraction type. Graded MS63 Choice and tied for CC#1 honors in the Noyes census, his photo #24140. Bland says MS63 and tied for CC#1. Our grade is MS63+. The attribution and Reynolds provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Pop 1; none finer at PCGS for the variety. Estimate Value $20,000 - UP
