1798 S-162 R4 Style I Hair, Small 8 PCGS graded XF45. Nice glossy light chocolate brown mixed with several small puffs of darker olive brown toning scattered over both sides. Smooth and attractive with only a few trivial contact marks. The notable ones are a small pinprick left of the L in LIBERTY, a couple faint hairlines in the field off the chin, and a diagonal nick very close over the left side of the N in ONE. Nicely struck MDS, Breen state II, showing all the die cracks described by Breen for the obverse and reverse but no clashmarks at the throat. Graded EF40 net VF30 and tied for CC#3 in the Noyes census, his photo #21436. Bland says VF25 and tied for CC#5. Our grade is VF30++, close to VF35. The attribution and Reynolds provenance are noted on the PCGS Secure label. Pop 3; none finer at PCGS for the variety. Estimate Value $2,000 - UP
