1798 S-153 R3 Style I Hair, Large 8 PCGS graded AU53. Glossy olive brown and steel delicately mottled with frosty lighter brown toning on both sides. Traces of flowline luster can be found in a few protected areas on the reverse. No roughness but there is a small spot of raised reddish carbon over the right side of the E in UNITED. Just a few minor marks, including a tiny nick on a dentil under the 9, a small triangle-shaped planchet chip in the field above the hair ribbon (as struck), and a diagonal nick in the field before the brow. Nicely struck M-LDS, Breen state VI. All the die cracks described in the Breen reference are present but the cud break at the bust tip has not formed. Our grade is EF40 sharpness net VF35. The attribution and Reynolds provenance are noted on the PCGS Secure label. Pop 1; 2 finer in 58 at PCGS for the variety. Estimate Value $3,000 - UP
