1797 S-126 R3 Reverse of 1797 PCGS graded XF45, CAC Approved. Very attractive frosty steel brown and light chocolate with slightly darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. No corrosion or verdigris and the only notable marks are tiny pre-striking planchet chips that didn't completely disappear when the coin was struck. These microscopic chips are located mostly on the neck, in the field behind the portrait, and inside the wreath. A pair of very tiny pinpricks just left of the O in OF can help identify this cent. M-LDS, Breen state V. The die crack from the rim to the throat is strong and lumpy, and it extends through the portrait stopping just short of the curl under the hair ribbon. Additional lighter die cracks show in the obverse fields. Graded VF30 net VF25 and tied for CC#16 in the Noyes census. Our grade is VF35 sharpness net VF30+.
