Lot 1

1793 S-1 R4 Chain AMERI. PCGS graded F15, CAC Approved. Mostly glossy medium chocolate brown and steel. No spots or stains, only microscopic contact marks. The best identifying marks are a tiny rim nick under the left edge of the 9 and a very light rim bruise over ME in AMERI. Neither mark is distracting and the eye appeal of this cent is excellent. M-LDS, Breen state V early. There is a fine die crack connecting the tops of the T & E in STATES, but the extension to the adjacent TA is not visible. The date is relatively weak, as usual for this variety, but it is complete and easily readable. The legends are strong. A very nice example of our first Federal Large Cent. Noyes graded F12, his photo #26806. Our grade is consistent with the PCGS grade. The attribution and Koshkarian provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Estimate Value $35,000 - UP
Ex Jules Reiver, Heritage 1/24/2006:19157 (includes the Reiver collection envelope and lot ticket).

Realized $47,000
