RARE ANTIQUE U.S. MILITARY FEDERAL CONTRACT MODEL 1798 FLINTLOCK MUSKET BY 'WELTON'. A Rare U.S. Military Federal Contract Model 1798 Flintlock Musket by WELTON of Waterbury, Connecticut. 43.75".70 cal. Barrel. Standard model 1795 steel furniture. Stock was broke through the wrist and later repaired, scratches and dings from years of service and handling. All steel parts have salt and pepper pitting and areas of dark age patina. In good mechanical working order. 59" overall. Very few of these muskets are known. According to Flayderman's Guide, Records in the year 1810 recorded 300 of these muskets on hand at the Springfield Armory. Note; It is our opinion that this musket was reconverted using an original period hammer and frizzen. $2,000 - 4,000
