Daisho Set ca. 1600s by Chikuzen Yoshimasa with Mounts. Very fine Daisho set by Chikuzen Yoshimasa ca. 1600s, that has both the blades as well as the mounts matching. The Dai (Katana) is a very nice copy of a Kamakura Bizen School blade. Yoshimasa was very famous for this style. The hamon of choji midare is very nicely done. The presence of utsuri appears giving the blade an older feel. The ko itame hada is very nice, and in perfect condition. Both swords in excellent condition. The Sho (Wakizashi) is a very wide and strong shaped sword. The very nice gunome hamo done in the Soshu style shows Yoshimasa's versatility. Both blades encased in shirasaya with attestation by Mr. Tanobe of the Japanese Sword Museum. Mountings are quite fine all done in the dragon motif. The fittings are made of shakudo nanako and gold. A special type of wrapping know as "jabara maki" is used on the handles. This is a Daisho set of superior quality. Bot blades signed Chikuzen Ju Minamoto Nobukuni Yoshimasa. Dai is 69 cm. Sho 50.8 cm. $17,500
Evaluation by Mike Yamasaki.
