First Issue of Playboy Magazine (Page 3 Copy) CGC Graded 8.5 Very Fine +. Volume One, Number One December, 1953. There are three versions of the original Playboy #1 - a newsstand edition, an edition known as the "page 3 copy" (where page 3 is numbered) and an edition known as the "red star copy" (which has a red star next to the P in "Playboy") This is a "page 3 copy,": the edition with page 3 numbered. Sources cite that 5% of the existing first editions are of this type. The is one of the landmark cultural touchstones in American pop-culture history with the most iconic image of Hollywood, Marilyn Monroe, on the cover. This publication made Hugh Hefner a household name, ushered in the "sexual revolution" and of course the 1949 nude photos of Marilyn Monroe proved a global sensation. Issue also included great content including a Sherlock Holmes story by Arthur Conan Doyle, articles on jazz, football, a piece by Amrose Bierce and plenty of illustrated humor.
