Le Carré, John. The Spy Who Came in From the Cold. Coward-McCann, Inc., New York, 1964. Hardcover, 8vo, black cloth binding with gold lettering on front cover and spine. First American edition, so stated on the copyright page, 256 pp. Binding and pages are tight and clean, condition fine. The dust jacket is intact, with some minor bumps and folds along the edges, the condition very good.

Upon publication, The Spy Who Came in From the Cold forever changed the landscape of spy fiction. Le Carré combined the inside knowledge of his years in British intelligence with the skills of the best novelists to produce a story as taut as it is twisting, unlike any previously experienced.

Lot additionally includes Le Carre's Call for the Dead. Walker and Company, 1962. Hardcover, 8vo, tealand orange binding with gold lettering on the spine. This appears to be a first American impression, but it is actually a book club edition printed at a later date, 128 pp. Book and dustjacker are both fine. $300 - 400
