Likely FLOWN Shuttle NASA custom ordered Nikon F5 EVA Space Camera. This camera is Class I flight hardware with NASA Part #SEF33110611-307 serial #1028 (label on back of camera). Nikon delivered 35 of these modified F5 35mm film camera bodies to NASA around 1999. This camera includes a Nikon Multi-Control Function Data Back MF-28 to record date, time and other info onto the film at the time of exposure. Also included is a custom manufactured stainless steel quick release mounting plate that was designed to function with other NASA photography equipment and to allow hands free and time lapse photography as well as mounting to the astronaut equipment rack during spacewalks. The quick release plate allowed astronauts the ability to detach the camera, for use in taking photos, from the equipment rack while wearing spacesuit gloves. Nikon F5 was the first camera NASA used for the dual purpose of documenting activities inside the Space Shuttle and ISS as well as being used by astronauts on spacewalks. When used on EVA, a Nikon Sports Finder was used for increased visibility by helmeted astronauts. As many as five Nikon F5s were flown on each Space Shuttle mission. There is no flight history available for this camera. Included is a NASA pink Parts Bag. The camera is in excellent condition and is fully functinal with addition of batter ies. This F5 was purchased as NASA surplus. Includes detailed COA. Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,500
