LZ 129 Hindenburg, Collection from Doomed Airship Including Fabric Sample. LZ 129 Hindenburg (Luftschiff Zeppelin #129; Registration: D-LZ 129, Germany) was the largest commercial passenger-carrying rigid airship, It was designed and built by the Zeppelin Company and was operated by the German Zeppelin Airline Company. On May 6, 1937 disaster hit as it attempted to dock on its mooring mast in Lakehurst, New Jersey bursting into flames, a catastrophe captured on newsreel and likely one of the most famous live radio broadcasts in history. Offered here is a small collection of vintage pieces from the storied zeppelin. The signature piece is a 3 x 4" inch section of the fabric/skin from tail fins. Piece was originally in a display so glue/paper on version but still very nice. Also included is an original U.S. Naval Air Station, Lakehurst, N.J. 1937 Ground Crew Baggage Inspector's button 1½" round, a U.S. Naval Air Station 1937 Transatlantic Airship Service pass stamped American Zeppelin Transport, Inc. General U.S.Agents German Zeppelin Transport Co (pass was used for a Duralim display and is so noted). a single sheet of German stationary of onion skin paper, with Luftchiff, Hindenburg letter head and Deutsch-Zeppelin Reederei Flag, one vintage post card and a colorized re-strike photo of the Hindenberg as it sailed over Manhattan prior to leaving for Lakehurst awaiting the weather to clear.
