The Wright Brothers, Orville and Wilbur Wright Signed Photograph. The two most famous brothers in aviation history, Orville and Wilbur Wright, on December of 1903 made history with their numerous powered flights at Kitty Hawk a beach area in North Carolina. The first lasting only 12 seconds but the longest at almost a full minute. A coin toss decided who would have the honors of the first flight which fell to Wilbur on December 14th. But his attempts failed, so it was Orville three days later who made the flights with the help of favorable breeze. Both brothers continued in the business of flying, negotiating contracts with the U.S. Government for engines and withstanding controversy and claims by other countries regarding their history in flight even coming to heads with the Smithsonian. But after WWII, the 1903 Wright Flyer now resides at the museum a symbol of accomplishment.

A small vintage photo with uneven trims, 3½ x 4½", of what appears to be their Model L biplane (image to small to be sure). The plane the brothers were in hopes to contract with the U.S. Government for WWI, but was deemed inferior to other manufacturers. Photo is signed by both brothers in black fountain pen ink that has oxidized to a brown over the years. Very scarce. Estimated Value $2,000-UP

From the Collection of John Herbert.
