17th Century Map, Huntington Shire, Joan Blaeu. Beautiful and finely engraved 17th century map of Huntingdonshire which was published in Blaeu's Toonneel des Aerdrycks, oft Nieuwe Atlas or Vierde Stuck Der Aerdrycks-Beschryving (Amsterdam: Dutch Text Edition, 1646-1647,1648 & 1664). Joan Blaeu (1596-1673) produced the most magnificent atlases and maps of the period during the time the Netherlands enjoyed an extended Renaissance in arts and sciences. Employing only the best engravers and printers and using only the finest materials and papers, Blaeu's maps have been collected for over three centuries. Fine hand colouring (later). Blaeu's maps boast great detail, ornate cartouches, cherubs, heraldic shields, and calligraphy. Offered is an exceptional example of his work, printed area 17 x 20", very handsomely framed recently to 27 x 31". Examined in frame, map is in exceptional condition with unobtrusive center fold and very minor smudges and flecks in white border. Beautiful piece, ready for hanging. Estimated Value $500 - 600
