Sicily, Syracuse. Dionysios I. Silver Tetradrachm (17.42 g), 405-367 BC Choice V. Ca. 405-400 BC. Unsigned dies by the artist Eukleidas. Charioteer driving galloping quadriga left, holding kentron and reins; above, Nike flying right, crowning charioteer; in exerge, dolphin left. Reverse: [ΣYP-A-]KO-Σ-I-Ω-[N], diademed head of Arethusa left, hair bound with sphendone over which several tresses fly back; four dolphins around, three before and one behind. Tudeer 97 (dies 34/66); SNG ANS 298 (same dies); L. Forrer, "Notes sur les signatures de graveurs sur les monnaies grecques," RBN (1903-1906), p. 138, 2 (same dies); du Chastel, Syracuse, ses monnaies d'argent et d'or au point de vue artistique (1898), pl. 8, 93 (same dies).
