Lot 852

1852 N-5 R2+ MS60. Frosty mint red mellowing to steel brown and chocolate, about 30% of the faded mint color remaining. Would rate a higher grade except for a shallow planchet void under star 3 and a smaller one at the right point of star 1. The only other marks are a spot of darker toning between star 1 and the bust and a faint hairline right of star 2. E-MDS, die state a. Low spots caused by debris on the die cover the lower half of the neck and parts of the field inside the wreath. Tied for CC#5 in the Grellman census.
Estimated Value $350-UP.
Ex J. R. Grellman collection (found unattributed on the bourse at the 6/1993 Long Beach Expo) 2/1/2012-Fred Iskra.

Realized $423
