Lot 827

1849 N-23 R3 PCGS graded MS63 Brown. Nice frosty medium brown and light chocolate with hints of silvery steel overtone. Microscopic peeps of faded mint color can be found in protected areas on the reverse. No spots or stains, only a few microscopic contact marks. The notable ones are a few very tiny ticks in the field off the brow lock and a thin nick on the rim left of the date. LDS, die state d (Newcomb's old #13). The obverse die has been lapped leaving microscopic die polishing lines in the fields. Fine repunching is visible under the 1 and 4 and crumbling shows on both sides of the upper point of star 7. Our grade is AU58, tied for CC#4 in the Grellman census. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 2 finer in 64.
Estimated Value $500-UP.
