Lot 530

1798 S-156 R5+ Small 8, Style I Hair, Reverse of 1795 G4. The obverse is slightly better, the reverse a bit weaker. Rather glossy medium chocolate brown and steel with darker chocolate brown and olive in protected areas. The planchet is reasonably smooth but a glass reveals very fine roughness in the fields and protected areas. No verdigris, and the only notable mark is a nick across the upper part of the I in LIBERTY. LDS, Breen state III. The die cracks on the obverse are strong. The date is bold and the single leaf feature at the top of the wreath is clear.
Estimated Value $1,500-UP.
Ex H. Craig Hamling.
