1797 S-137 R2 Double Struck, NGC graded G4. Dark steel brown and chocolate. The surfaces are a bit dull thanks to uniform microscopic roughness that is visible only under strong magnification. No verdigris, only a few old, light scratches slanting through ON in ONE. EDS. This cent was struck two times. The first impression was about 3% off center to K-6, and the second strike was centered on the planchet. Ample evidence of the first strike remains visible on both sides. The first date is visible under the second date with a partial overlap of the digits. Our grade is G5 sharpness net G4. The "Mint Error" status and "Double Struck" features are included on the NGC label. The attribution and Mervis provenance are also noted on the NGC label.
