Tiberius, AD 14-37. Silver Denarius (3.7g). Lugdunum, AD 15-16. Lauareate head of Tiberius facing right. Reverse: PONTIF MAXIM, female figure (Livia?) seated right, holds sceptre and branch. Sear 1763; RIC 26; RSC 16. Lustrous and lightly toned. Struck on a nice large flan. Extremely Fine.

This type is commonly referred to as the 'Tribute Penny' of the Bible after the well-known New Testament story in St. Matthew's Gospel (22, 17-21).
