Lot 2088

1839. Large letters. Head of 38. NGC graded AU-55. A hint of tone near the obverse rims. This is the short lived first style with the swept back hair over Liberty's ear and a more sinuous curve on her truncation line above the date. For reasons lost, the master hub was changed and the swept back hair rearranged starting in mid 1839. Hence this is a distinct type coin issued for just parts of two short years! A tiny mark at 12:00 on the obverse is the only feature worthy of note on this high grade, appealing coin. Pop 18; 41 finer at NGC.
Estimated Value $8,000 - 9,000.
