Lot 2030

1839-O. NGC graded AU-53. A light hint of gold tone with decent surfaces and smooth wear on the highest points of the design. The New Orleans branch mint opened in 1838 so this is one of earliest gold coins struck there. This is the final year of the Classic Head design, and interestingly the O mintmark appears above the date. This is the first coin in a long and important run of New Orleans Mint quarter eagles, including both high grade and rarity, certainly something for every quarter eagle specialist! This is an impressive run of New Orleans coins which we are proud to offer to our collectors. Only 17,781 struck (PCGS # 7701) .
Estimated Value $2,200 - 2,300.

Realized $3,760
