Lot 1436

1850. PCGS graded MS-64. A nice white coin with just a touch of pale gold near the rims. This is the repunched date variety with the base of the 1 misplaced well south down on the flat rim of the coin. A popular variety with collectors as such. Furthermore, despite a rather generous mintage, the vast majority of this issue was melted in the next few years, as the price of silver jumped up in relation to gold due to the gold discoveries in California in that period. This puts high demand on all 1850 quarters when they come to market, especially true when a Mint State coin like this is available. Pop 3; 2 finer, 1 in 65, 1 in 67 (PCGS # 5415) .
Estimated Value $3,200 - 3,400.
