The Final Frontier. Signatures. Lot of two famous Time Magazine covers. Aleksei Leonov signed a Time Magazine cover commemorating his March 1965 spacewalk. Three months later, James McDivitt and Edward White signed a cover commemorating their flight, during which White was the first person to propel himself in space with a maneuvering unit. The Leonov cover is accompanied by a large transmittal envelope postmarked Moscow, May 25, 1965. The mailing label remains on the Leonov cover and adhesive from a mailing label is visible on the McDivitt-White cover. There is some minor wear on both covers and mailing creases, but they are otherwise in very good to good condition.
These are truly relics of the Space Race, since the Leonov and White spacewalks took place only three months apart. The Leonov cover, with its grainy yet striking picture of the first man to actually venture out of a spacecraft, must have created a sensation. The beautiful Robert Vickery White/McDivitt portrait captures the astronauts beautifully and is a nice tribute to White, who died with Grissom and Chaffee just two years later.
