Lot 424

Historic Jewish Paper Documents, Bank Notes, Emergency Currency. Interesting lot of Israel Banknotes, Palestine Insurance Policies, etc. Three notes from Litzmannstadt concentration camp (50 pfennig, 1 mark and 20 marks), about uncirculated. Palestine Currency Board 500 mils, stained, very good; this is the rarest 500 mil bank note printed by Palestine. Prices range from a few hundred dollars to a couple of thousand dollars. Also included are 6 emergency issues of the "Committee of Tel Aviv" used during a period of shortage of locally available currency. Though not dated they were issued shortly after the outbreak of WWI in August/September 1914. The denominations are two examples of the One Bishlik (equivalent to about 2-3 Turkish piasters), two examples of the one Franc (equivalent to about two Bishliks, or 5-6 Turkish piasters), one example of the pink 1/2 Bishlik (equivalent to 1-1 1/2 Turkish pasters) and one example of a green 2/10 of a Bishlik (equivalent to about 30 Turkish paras). The Turkish authorities never officially approved of this local issue and consequently after about five months the entire issue (about 40,000 Francs and 10,000 Bishliks) had been withdrawn from circulation at the insistence of the Turkish government. Today specimens are scarce.
Estimated Value $350 - 500.

Realized $5,280
