Lot 411

Early 20th Century Unusual Travelling Menorah. An unusual Menorah comes to Goldberg Auctions passed down from at least three generations of a local family and is either late 19th or early 20th Century. A polished metal box consisting of eight compartments, with each compartment holding a tiny, finely made pitcher. Now exactly how these were actually used is the source of some discussion……….oil, candles, both? There are rings evident on the lid of the box that match the bottoms of the pitchers possibly removed from individual compartment and set atop box. Was a wick inserted with oil in lamps? It appears so. There is also an opening a compartment that stretches the length of the box on the left side where possible wicks or thin candles might have been stored. At the very least a charming piece of Judaica. To understand the size, box measures only 8" x 1" x 2" with the individual pitchers measuring just at 1". In used condition, some dints, lid does not close as missing the latch.
Estimated Value $500 - 750.

Realized $357
