Mid-19th Century Hanging Sabbath Brass Lamp. Germany. Decorated bulbous stem. Six extended oil receptacles. Includes drip pan. Just before the Sabbath, the lamp would be lowered from its position on the ceiling in private homes so it could be lit. There is a German-Jewish proverb "Once the Sabbath lamp descends, want and worry disappear." Total length 17". Excellent condition.
