Jakob Steinhardt "Beth Hamidrash" "Dance of Hassidim" "Havdalah" "The Rabbi". 4 Hand Colored Woodcuts, Signed in Pencil, 1960s, Image 9 ½" x 14", plus Book "The Woodcuts of Jakob Steinhardt," Edited by Leon Kolb, San Francisco, 1959. Born Germany, active Germany and Israel, 1887-1968. Charming depictions of Jewish life from a bygone era. Examples of these prints are in the collection of the Israel Museum. Excellent condition. The book editor, Leon Kolb states that "Today Steinhardt is considered the world's foremost artist in the technique of woodcuts, with its heavy blacks and stark whites." Book is in excellent condition, but dust jacket is a bit frayed and stained.
