Collection Revolutionary War Canonballs, Ft. Ticonderoga and Hudson Highlands. Collection of 4 Revolutionary War cannonballs (and one fragment) from the Alexander White III collection. The largest found in the Hudson Highlands area is 5¼ lbs. and 4" in diameter. The second and third are a three pounder at about 3" in diameter and a 2½ pounder at about 2½" in diameter both unearthed at Fort Ticonderoga, a star-shaped fort built in 1758 by the French at the narrows at the south end of Lake Champlain. First the site of the Battle of Carillon where 4000 French held strong against triple the amount of British. Then in 1775 a state militia under the command of Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold took over the fort from the British in a surprise attack. The smallest, likely grape shot is just over 1 pound at 1½" in diameter and the fragment likely from a five pounder are from the Hudson Highlands. All are lettered with the locations from where unearthed and all are in excellent condition (excluding the fragment.) Shipping due to weight will be modest but a consideration if shipping overseas.
