Rachmaninoff, Sergei (1873-1943) Russian composer, pianist, and conductor. Rachmaninoff is widely considered as one of the finest pianists of his day and, as a composer, one of the last great representatives of Romanticism in Russian classical music. Typed Letter signed ("S. Rachmaninoff"), one page, 10¼" x 7¼", on personal Sergei Rachmaninoff /505 West End Avenue/ New York City stationery, New York, March 26, 1927. To Mrs. Cyrus Cooper in reply to her request for a copy of his choral work "Three Russian Songs" prior to publication: "I much regret to inform you that until my 'Russian Songs' are published my manuscript cannot be copied for any purpose. I cannot also consent to even semi-public performance of those songs except as is was already arranged by my manager…will be shortly published and Carl Fisher Co. will be the agents for the United States. Regarding your last question about the original text of my song 'Deep in Love Was I', I must confess that I can not remember to which song you refer." Light age toning, vertical and horizontal folds, small minor stain at top center margin. Overall in very good condition.
