Lot 151

1798/7 S-150 R5 Overdate Small 8 over 7 VG10. Sharpness VF25 but covered with fine to moderate roughness, strongest on the reverse. No verdigris, and the only marks are a scrape on the rim left of the hair ribbon and a shallow rim bruise at D-S on the reverse. The toning is an attractive and slightly glossy dark chocolate and olive brown with lighter chocolate and steel brown toning on the devices. The two-tone appearance accents the designs and adds to the eye appeal. The date is bold, the legends are clear, and the overdate feature is obvious to the unaided eye. LDS, Breen state IV, with areas of swelling on both sides. A sharp example of this tough overdate variety.
Estimated Value $300-UP.
Ex John Hipps 1/18/2004-Colonel Steven Ellsworth 2004-John Koebert.

Realized $517
