Lot 119

1794 S-56 R3 F15+. The "Office Boy Reverse" variety. Sharpness near VF30 but covered with microscopic roughness on all but the highpoints, which are smooth. No verdigris, but there is a rim dent opposite the nose, a small dig at LI, and another at the T in LIBERTY. Rather glossy chocolate brown and steel blending to darker olive brown in protected areas. The date and legends are complete and strong. LDS, Breen state III. The die crack from the dentils to the hair under the cap is clear. A decent if imperfect example of the popular "Office Boy Reverse" variety, so-called because of the amateurish layout of the legends on that side.
Estimated Value $600-UP.
Ex Cantonsville Early Copper Coins 12/5/2004-Colonel Steven Ellsworth-John Koebert.
