Lot 117

1794 S-48 R5 "Starred Reverse" VG7. Sharpness VF25 but covered with very fine granularity mixed with several nearly black patches of marginally more significant porosity. Slightly glossy very dark steel and olive brown. The only contact mark is a shallow rim bruise at the top of the cap. The date and legends are complete and at least half of the tiny stars are visible among the dentils on the reverse. The details visible on this example of arguably the most famous variety of 1794 are well above average, but the eye appeal is clearly below average. MDS, Breen state II.
Estimated Value $15,000-UP.
Ex David Stagg 3/2003-Rick Gross 9/10/2004-Colonel Steven Ellsworth 2004-John Koebert.

Realized $18,213
