Lot 1144

1891. PCGS graded MS-65. A nice white coin which is another major condition rarity at the Gem or finer grades. Only 151 MS-65 coins have been certified by PCGS of this date and mint, and importantly a scant six are finer! Hence collectors have to search high and wide to find one of these if they desire a gem. Lower grades are much more plentiful, but if a satin smooth cheek on Liberty and unmarred fields are desired, then a gem is a sure ticket to satisfaction.

Although bags of this date were available the quality of the coins inside was always disappointing. Experts in Morgan dollars soon figured out that gems of this date were never available, but lower grade mint state pieces were everywhere! This has been borne out today with such modest numbers of gems certified, while lower grade coins are certainly available. HIghly recommended if you need an example of this date and mint (PCGS # 7204) .
Estimated Value $4,000 - 4,200.
