Lot 114

1794 S-32 R2 F15. Glossy medium brown blending to darker olive brown in protected areas. The surfaces are mostly smooth but traces of microscopic roughness can be found in the protected areas on both sides. The notable marks are a small horizontal nick left of the eye and a spot of shallow carbon right of the Y in LIBERTY. M-LDS, Breen state IV. Unevenly struck, as usual in this die state due to the 45 degree CCW rotation of the dies, with weakness along the right edge of the obverse and the opposing lower right edge of the reverse. Otherwise the devices are well struck. The die crack from the rim through the first S in STATES is strong and it reaches the O in ONE. The cud break over the L in LIBERTY is obvious. Removed from a PCGS slab graded VF20 (label #35561.20/15010255 included, and it shows the Ellsworth provenance).
Estimated Value $600-UP.
Ex McLaughlin & Robinson Auction #4229, 2/1987:215-Colonel Steven Ellsworth collection 2010-John Koebert (lot ticket included).

Realized $1,351
