Lot 112

1794 S-25 R3 VF25. Sharpness EF40 but the obverse is covered with uniform very fine granularity on all but the highpoints, which are nearly smooth. No verdigris and the only marks are some light scratches on the portrait, all blended perfectly into the attractive mostly glossy light to medium chocolate brown toning. The reverse is much nicer, nearly choice, with only minor imperfections. EDS, Breen state I. Graded net VF25 in the Bland/Breen condition census. The obverse is plated in the Tom Morley book on the cents of 1794. This cent comes with an impressive provenance that includes numerous heavyweights of large cent collecting, and the "H" and "D" in HUNDRED on the edge are filled with yellow ink signifying this cent was in the famous collection of Homer K. Downing.
Estimated Value $2,000-UP.
