1880. NGC graded Proof 66. Only 1,987 minted in Proof, this is well up in terms of preservation. Lovely light blue toning that mixes with lilac-gray and crimson hints. The last circulation strikes of the Trade dollar series were struck in 1878, but Proof coinage continued as these remained popular enough with collectors to keep sales going. Today these large and attractive coins are all the more sought after, especially when found so nicely toned and in high technical grade. A delightful example of this elusive issue. Pop 40; 21 finer .
