Three Union Generals and One Admiral. John Sedgewick (1813-1864) Union Major General wounded at Antietam and Glendale; fought at Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. War-date letter signed (" John Sedgewick, Brig. Genl Comdg Division, 1 page, 9½" x 8", Harrisons' Landing, Va., July 7, 1862. A petition to the Governor recommending Col. Byron Laflin for command of a regiment. The letter is also signed by E.V. Sumner (1797-1863) as Brigadier General commanding the corp, and Alfred Sully (1820-1879) as Colonel of the 1st Minnesota. Winfield Scott (1786-1866) U. S. Army general, and unsuccessful Whig presidential candidate in 1852. Engraving inscribed "Very truly yours" and signed in the lower border, 8½" x 5½". Engraved by T. H. Welch / Phila. from a Daguerreutype by M. A. Root, 1844. Matted and framed to an overall size of 13" x 10". David D. Porter (1813-1891) Second U.S. Navy officer ever to attain the rank of Admiral. Signature and rank on a cut slip of paper, 2¼" x 3½", no place, no date. Strong bold signature. Handsomely matted with a picture of Porter and a descriptive brass plaque. Attractively framed to an overall size of 19" x 19½". (3 items).
