Louis XVIII and Charles X. Document signed by two future Kings of France: "Louis Stanislas Xavier," the future Louis XVIII (1755-1824), who reigned from 1814 to1824, except for the Hundred Days in 1815 after Napoleon escaped from Elba, and by "Charles Philippe," the future Charles X (1757-1836), who reigned from 1824 until the July 1830 Revolution which led to his abdication. The document is headed, "We Princes and Brothers of the King of France," 1 page, 9 x 7¼ in., Coblentz, February 5, 1792. Regarding 20,000 pounds that Monsieur the Count of Sainte Marie, a Captain in the Regiment of French Guards, is to employ in the service of the King. Louis XVI was under house arrest at this time, after having been apprehended trying to flee France with his family in July 1791. On September 21, 1792, less than eight months after this document was signed by Louis' brothers, the monarchy was abolished and the First French Republic was proclaimed. Louis XVI would be guillotined on January 21, 1793. When his young son, the titular Louis XVII, died in prison in June 1795, Louis Stanislas Xavier became the titular king but lived in exile until 1814 when he would ascend the throne as Louis XVIII. A rare document with the signatures of two future Kings.
Estimated Value $400 - 500.
