Coolidge, Calvin. Typed letter signed as President, marked "Personal", on White House letterhead, 1 page, Washington, D.C., December 20, 1923. To Mr. Henry L.Stoddard, editor of The Evening Mail, New York, N.Y., regarding his editorial about the increased representation at the National Convention: "In assessing all the blame for this action on those who are undoubtedly my friends, you have assumed that the sole object was an increase in the number of delegates from the Southern States, while as a matter of fact, the protests against the original allotment came from the representatives of the Northern negroes, and were reinforced by well-meaning persons, who are unwilling to seemingly place the stamp of approval on Southern disfranchisement. I should think it would be evident to anyone that I had nothing to gain by this increase…it would result in nothing but embarrassment to me…I think you will see that there are other angles to be considered…" Bold Coolidge signature. Age toned withe moderate overall staining. Two paperclip rust marks at left top margins.
Estimated Value $400 - 600.

Realized $300
