Arthur, Chester A. Document signed ("C A Arthur") as Collector of the Port of New York, on a cut portion of a partly-printed document, accomplished in black ink, 1½ x 6 in., no place, March 4, 1875. Document portion reads "Sworn to and subscribed this 4th day of March, 1875 witness my hand and seal / C A Arthur." Matted with two large Commemorative Presidential bronze medals; a printed excerpt from Arthur's 1881 Inaugural Address ("No higher or more assuring proof could exist of the strength and permanence of popular government that the fact that though the chosen of the people be struck down, his constitutional successor is peacefully installed without shock or strain…"); and a printed Arthur portrait which also lists a brief timeline. Attractively framed to an overall size of 21½ x 11½ in.
