Foch, Ferdinand and John J. "Black Jack" Pershing. Sepia-tone photograph signed by Ferdinand Foch ("F. Foch") and by John J. Pershing, 12 x 8¾ in. (image is 9 x 7 in.) (Philadelphia, c. 1921). With blind embossed stamp of The Phillips Studio, Philadelphia. The signatures are slightly faded, but a beautiful photograph. Foch (1851-1929) was marshal of France and commander of Allied forces during the closing months of World War I. He was generally considered the leader most responsible for the Allied victory. He was invited on a speaking tour of the United States in 1921. Pershing (1860-1948) was commander of the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I. In 1916, he had led the Punitive Expedition against Pancho Villa.
