Tirtoff, Romain De, Erté. Opening Night. Romain de Tirtoff, who went by his pseudonymn Erté for some 75 years is considered the father of Art Deco. Born in St. Petersburg, Russia he moved to Paris to pursue design and graphic arts and in short order landed his first contract with Harper's Bazaar. That exposure led to spectacular and opulent stage collaborations with Florenz Ziegfeld, opera, dance and finally Hollywood. In the 1960s with the revival of Art Deco, Erté enjoyed a late career revival in his graphic arts, and sculpture that continues today. Offered is the bronze "Opening Night" 20¼" x 13¼" x 12½" a beautiful example of Erté's command of elegance. Stamped #273 of an edition of 375 and weighs 26 pounds. Piece is in excellent condition with only the most minor evidence of handling and ever so slight tarnishing to the metal tassels. Buyer responsible for shipping.
