Tirtoff, Romain De, Erté. L'Amour du Vin. Romain de Tirtoff, who went by his pseudonymn Erté for some 75 years is considered the father of Art Deco. Born in St. Petersburg, Russia he moved to Paris to pursue design and graphic arts and in short order landed his first contract with Harper's Bazaar. That exposure led to spectacular and opulent stage collaborations with Florenz Ziegfeld, opera, dance and finally Hollywood. In the 1960s with the revival of Art Deco, Erté enjoyed a late career revival in his graphic arts, and sculpture that continues today. Offered is one of Erté's more lyrical sculptures "L'Amour du Vin" and indeed the detail of vines, leaves and grapes in beautiful detail within the dress and skull cap is elegant and yet charming. A wonderful celebration of the art of wine. #439 of an edition of 500 issued in 1990 and measuring 19" x 9" x 9" and weighing 24 pounds and is in excellent condition with only two or three flee bites and minor evidence of handling.
